The upgraded railway track section Sudoměřice –Votice, which is a part of the Railway Corridor IV, is nearly 20 kilometers long. The investor of the upgrade is Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).With construction costs exceeding 7 billion Czech crowns, at the moment of its execution the upgrade will rank among the biggest projects of the Czech Railways. The main project objectives include improvement of performance and design working life of the new double-rail track, higher operation security and more passenger comfort. The line will comply with European parameters and standards for the maximum speed of up to160km/h.
The works are divided into three parts: the section between Sudoměřice and Červený Újezd, the railway station Červený Újezd, and the section between Červený Újezd and Votice. The project involves two tunnels: Mezno, 840 meters long, and Deboreč, 660 meters long. In the section Červený Újezd – Votice four overpasses will be constructed. The construction is to be put into operation at the end of 2021. While the entire Railway Corridor IV connecting Germany and Austria via Děčín, Prague and České Budějovice will have been finished by 2028.
The construction includes a substantialamountof earthworks. The line crosses uneven terrain with many embankments and cuts. Before soil bodies are laid, unsuitable material needs to be extracted. In some parts, mechanical improvement of soil is designed by integrating and rolling in cobble fraction 64/256. In other parts the soil is to be treated by lime and/or hydraulic binders. Once the earth foundation is treated and perfectly compact, separation-filtration geotextile is laid. In case a crushed aggregate consolidation (drainage) layer is applied, it is also closed by the separation geotextile. Water from the consolidation (drainage) layer flows into toe drains and is taken to the terrain by gravel ribs. Separation-filtration geotextile is placed also into the toe drain trenches.Gravel fraction 16/32 is used as the filling of the drains.
The non-woven geotextile geoNETEX was manufactured and supplied by JUTA a.s.
