WELDING
The individual sheets of the membrane are usually joined by hot-wedge or combi-wedge welding machines. The choice of the welding machine depends on the type of the welded membrane (PE-HD, PE-LLD, TPO) and its thickness (0.6mm – 3.0mm). The basic parameters monitored during welding operations are temperature, pressure and speed. The result of such a welding operation is a dual hot wedge seam with a test channel in the middle.
Recommended welding equipment:
Leister GEOSTAR, ASTRO, COMET, TWINNY T, TWINNY S
Munsch WEDGE-IT-MULTI, WEDGE-IT-MULTI-ECO, WEDGE-IT-PLUS, WEDGE-IT-MICRO
Herz COMON
For details, penetrations, less accessible spots, repairs, patches and shorter seams the extrusion welding method utilising the extrusion rod (part of JUTA a.s. portfolio) is suitable. In case of PE-HD material, overlaps done by a hot-air hand welding machine shall be considered field/temporary joints only.
The thickness of membrane suitable for extrusion welding must be 1.0mm as a minimum, however, the minimum thickness of 1.5mm is recommended.
Recommended welding equipment:
Munsch MAK-32-S-D, MAK-32-D, MAK-40-D, MAK-48-D, MAK-58-D
Leister WELDPLAST S4, WELDPLAST S6, FUSION 3
JOINING BY TAPES
Membranes with lower thicknesses (0.6 and 0.75mm), installed in environments with adequate hydro-physical stress (stress generated by humidity of the adjacent porous zones, so called ground moisture), or utilised as radon barriers, can be joined by bitumen-rubber tapes JUNIFLEX. Such a joint may only be exposed to pressure, not to tensile and shear stress.
Under no circumstances shall the JUNIFOL® products come into direct contact with flame!
